OPERATIONS

SOLID FOUNDATIONS
IN HONG KONG

Kwai Tsing remains our "home port", the place where we opened Hong Kong's first purpose-built container-handling facility in 1972. Our facilities there have grown enormously since then. Following the completion of an upgrade project at Terminals 1, 2, 5 and 9, Modern Terminals has a total throughput capacity of 7 million TEUs a year.

SETTING THE PACE AT
DACHAN BAY

Modern Terminals has a 65% shareholding in DaChan Bay Terminals. Our partner in DaChan Bay Terminals is the Shenzhen Yantian Port Group – a state-owned enterprise under Shenzhen Municipal Government. Its seven berths feature state-of-the-art equipment and operating systems. Ideally located for both river and truck transportation, and with deep water access, DaChan Bay Terminals commenced commercial operations in 2008. Today, it has an annual capacity of around 5 million TEUs.

OPERATING SYSTEMS

Modern Terminals maintains a leading edge as one of Asia’s most efficient container terminal operators by delivering levels of productivity and efficiency that our customers demand in line with our motto “Partner with the Best”.  Since 2014, we have partnered with Navis by using the N4 terminal operating system (TOS), and continue to leverage the best in class technologies to generate direct value for our customers.

AFFILIATES

We believe in building partnerships with external organisations that allow us to better deliver our core services to the industry.

OnePort

Modern Terminals co-founded OnePort Limited with other Kwai Tsing container terminal operators in 2003. OnePort's goal is to strengthen Hong Kong's competitive position through the provision of information services. OnePort has launched several electronic services covering different industry processes as well as an EDI centre that connects Hong Kong's local container terminals, shipping lines and other industry participants. Tradelink Electronic Commerce Limited joined as a shareholder later.
