Modern Terminals’ new corporate social responsibility initiative “Modern Terminals Summer Fitness Programme” successfully concluded

30 November 2017

Modern Terminals has always been committed to sustainability and continuously devoting resources to sustainable development activities.

In 2016, we have conducted a strategic review for Community Involvement and in the years to come we will focus on supporting youth development, promoting environmental awareness and promoting sports to lead a healthy life.

In line with the new focuses, we have initiated our sustainability programme in 2017. Modern Terminals Summer Fitness Programme, a newly launched community initiative with the YMCA New Territories Centre as supporting organization, commenced on 22 July. The programme aims to promote sports to lead a healthy life.

Besides caring about the wellness of our employees, we also care about our community. This year, the programme provided over 10 hours of sports training and around 5 hours of personal development activity to children from low-income families in Kwai Tsing. Participating children could learn a new sport joyfully and build confidence through the programme. In addition, a half-day adventure activity helped strengthen parent-child relationship.

This year, there were two phases which started in July and September respectively with some 40 participants receiving training on rope skipping or dodgebee. Among the participants were students from our Project WeCan partner school Cotton Spinner Association Secondary School and children of staff members of Modern Terminals in addition to children from low-income families. Members of Modern Volunteer Force provided volunteering services onsite.

A closing ceremony was held on 12 November at Modern Terminals to wrap up the programme. More than 70 people, including programme participants and their parents, joined the ceremony. As part of the ceremony, the programme participants showed their achievement by taking part in a dodgebee competition and rope skipping performance. This year’s programme was concluded with a health talk and a certification presentation.

Among the programme participants, 94% reported they can now master the basic skills of the respective sports and 87% of them have developed a habit of taking part in sports activity. Over 80% indicated that they liked and enjoyed the programme.
