04 September 2019

The Hong Kong Seaport Alliance (HKSPA) is reaffirming the city’s status as a world-class gateway for fresh fruits to China by promoting its world class facilities and quality services at the Asia Fruit Logistica 2019 being held from 4-6 September at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong.

This is the first time HKSPA members join hands to promote the Port of Hong Kong, the largest fresh fruit trading hub in South China, which handled over 895,000 TEU of reefers in 2018.

Leonard Fung, Managing Director of Hongkong International Terminals said, “We are committed to co-creating a reliable and agile logistics gateway with partners all over the world to ensure shipment stays FRESH throughout the entire journey.”

HKSPA promises a Flexible, Reliable, Efficient, Scalable and Hassle-free – or FRESH – service for fruit businesses attracted to the huge opportunities presented by the Mainland market.

Peter J. Levesque, Group Managing Director of Modern Terminals Limited, said: “Hong Kong enjoys a unique free port status, which offers the flexibility of Hot Box arrangement enabling containers to be picked up right after discharge from the ship.  This together with the simple, convenient and fast import Customs declaration procedures as well as the high productivity and efficiency of terminals, make Hong Kong an important gateway to China.”

HKSPA features state-of-the-art facilities with 7,839 reefer plugs which is more than any other terminal in South China.  It also offers seamless connections with comprehensive international service network of over 200 weekly vessel calls and 120 daily barge calls.

“Hong Kong’s strategic location means major fruit markets in South China can be conveniently reached within hours”, said Lawrence Shum, Managing Director of COSCO-HIT Terminals, “From the Hong Kong/Mainland boundary, fruit imports can reach Shenzhen by truck within an hour, Dongguan in 90 minutes, Guangzhou and Zhongshan within two hours, and Shanghai within 24 hours.”

At the same time, HKSPA boasts the capability to handle different types of reefers, e.g. general, controlled atmosphere, and sensitive reefers, with dedicated care.

“With long standing experience in handling perishable products, HKSPA is ready to set an unrivalled standard in cold chain shipment,” said Hanliang Zhu, Managing Director of the Asia Container Terminals.

Formed by Hongkong International Terminals, Modern Terminals, COSCO-HIT Terminals, and Asia Container Terminals, HKSPA delivers more efficient service offerings to customers, while enhancing the overall competitiveness of the Port of Hong Kong across the region.

Asia Fruit Logistica is the leading event for the fresh produce industry in Asia, with over 13,500 fruit traders and logistics experts from 46 different countries.
