Modern Terminals is honoured to have received the Bronze Award in the Transport and Logistics sector of the 2023 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence as a recognition of our outstanding environmental performance.  It is the third time we have been granted this reputable accolade.  We received a Bronze Award in 2011 and a Silver Award in 2019.

As part of our efforts towards our 2030 goal to eliminate direct greenhouse gas emissions from operations, Modern Terminals continued to launch various new decarbonisation initiatives including a trial to deploy renewable diesel - hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) - in operations; electrification of equipment and vehicles; as well as solar panel system installation.

When we launched our trial programme of HVO in 2023, we were the first company in Hong Kong to deploy this renewable energy in operations.  After successful conclusion of the trial programme, we have been engaging with other companies with an aim to increase the demand for renewable diesel in Hong Kong. The objective is to drive down the cost and ensure stability of supply to create conditions for us to consider the use of this greener energy at scale.

In terms of electrification, we have made significant investment in recent years in light goods vehicles, forklifts, and empty stackers.

In 2023, we have also completed our solar panel system installation.  Each year, we generate a total of 431,000 units (kWh) of electricity, equivalent to the annual consumption of 130 families in Hong Kong helping to reduce 168 tonnes of carbon emission.

We will continue our efforts in decarbonisation and look forward to more cooperation with other companies in this important journey!
