Modern Terminals Introduces Young Blood into the Port and Logistics Industry through Summer Internship Programme
With a view to encouraging the younger generation to pursue a long-term career in the port and logistics industry, Modern Terminals supports the Hong Kong SAR Government’s “Summer Internship Scheme on Supply Chain Management” by offering internship opportunities to eight university students between June and August 2022.
The eight interns are Year 2 and Year 3 students studying subjects related to logistics, engineering or economics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Throughout the internship period of five to nine weeks, the students were first given an overview of different operational functions at the terminals via site visits and learning sessions, before being assigned to on-the-job trainings with the Yard Planning, Ship Planning and Gatehouse units under the Operations Department, as well as the Innovation Department. At the end of the internship, the students presented their fruitful experience in a group project, in which they were asked to identify and recommend improvement opportunities for operational procedures in their respective units.
The summer internship programme has provided a valuable opportunity for young people to integrate their academic knowledge into real-world operations. We are glad to learn that all interns find the experience at Modern Terminals useful, inspiring, and it can help with their career aspiration. Please see below some of the feedbacks from the interns:
“This operation internship was rewarding and eye-opening to say the least, it has equipped me with first-hand industry knowledge, as well as unique hands-on job experience that cannot be obtained elsewhere.”
“Such experience had not only enriched my industry knowledge, but also my future career aspiration.”
“I always remember how stunning it was when I stood near the giant vessel.”
