| Modern Terminals
has become the first organization in Hong
Kong to receive a CISPROS (Continual Improvement
Safety Programme Recognition Of System) Level
3 certificate issued by the Occupational Safety
and Health Council (OSHC), a statutory body
that promotes safety and health in the workplace
and safeguards Hong Kong¡¦s valuable workforce.
CISPROS is based on the principle of continuous
improvement. Organizations that adopt an
occupational safety and health management
system (OSHMS) and work vigorously to improve
it further are awarded certificates that
recognize their progress.

The CISPROS Level 3 certificate is the highest
level that the OSHC has so far awarded. It
confirms that our safety and health programmes
comply with our own internal safety standards
and government regulations. It also shows
our OSHMS is mature, having undergone status
review and continuous improvement cycles.
CISPROS consists of four levels ¡V the first
is the planning and development of an OSHMS;
the second is the planning, development
and maintenance of the system; the third
is continuous improvement of the system;
and the highest level (Level 4) is the existence
of a modern and self-regulating OSHMS.
Modern Terminals joined the CISPROS programme
in 2005 and received a CISPROS Level 2 certificate
in 2006. So, it has not taken us long to
obtain a Level 3 certificate this year.
Earlier this year, Modern Terminals conducted
a safety awareness survey to examine our
workplace safety culture and identify areas
for further improvement. More than 360 staff
members were invited to take part in a questionnaire
survey designed by the OSHC. The result
was an average safety awareness index of
72.6 out of 100, which reflects our people¡¦s
positive attitudes about safety.
Safety is always a high priority at Modern
Terminals. Employees are our company¡¦s precious
assets. While delivering our brand promises
to our customers, we also care for the safety
of our people, thus demonstrating the professionalism
of our company and our staff.
We held a certificate presentation ceremony
on 27 September, followed by a party to
celebrate and recognize the efforts of our
people.
