Modern Terminals expands Inland Gate Network by cooperating with RTT
Modern Terminalsˇ¦ Inland Gate service at River
Trade Terminal (RTT) will commence on 4 July.
This will be Modern Terminalsˇ¦ first Inland Gate
service within Hong Kong boundary. It will provide
barge consolidation service and an efficient alternative
for the barge operators to connect their cargoes
to Modern Terminals. It is also expected to bring
substantial impact on eliminating fragmented barge
calls and various benefits to barging community.
Commencing on 4 July, RTT will operate two regular
marine shuttle services between their Tuen Mun
facility and Modern Terminals in Kwai Chung Port
at dedicated time slots. Using this Inland Gate
service, barge operators can significantly reduce
their waiting time at Kwai Chung and lower operation
cost. Miss Jessie Chung, General Manager - Logistics
of Modern Terminals expresses, ˇ§RTT is our first
partner of this model within Hong Kong boundary
and we will continue to identify appropriate partners
in the market in order to expand the service and
territory, thus bringing even more benefits to
our users.ˇ¨
Inland Gate service was created by Modern Terminals in 2002. It is a network of one-stop, integrated feeder and terminal services, providing regular and reliable waterway transportation between Hong Kong and feeder terminals in Southern China. It also offers fixed berthing for designated feeders to serve the cargo needs of mother vessels alongside Modern Terminals. Apart from the Inland Gate at RTT, the well-established and unique network is already connecting 11 ports and 22 terminals in the South China region. The continued development of Inland Gate will further contribute to barge economies and competitiveness of Hong Kong shipping community.
Container transportation community hails the opening of ˇ§ Green Laneˇ¨
After years of advocation and collaboration with different stakeholders, Modern Terminals is delighted to see that Green Lane became a reality. An opening ceremony of Green Lane was held in Shenzhen on 30 May 2006. Green Lane is a winning proposition for the entire logistics community, with everyone benefiting from it as it facilitates containers moving across the boundary between Hong Kong and the Mainland.
To ensure the Port of Hong Kong remains competitive
with our regional neighbours, Modern Terminals
has played a leading role in advocating the implementation
of the Green Lane. Green Lane has an objective
of providing more efficient and cost-effective
cross boundary trucking processes including simplified
customs procedures and truck interchange model,
which in return will reduce overall cross-boundary
trucking time and costs and improve the competitiveness
of the local shipping and transportation community.
Aiming to realize laden-in-laden-out and two-trips-per-day
concepts, Green Lane operates with the presence
of pre-submitted electronic manifest data and
the application of Global Positioning System (GPS)
and electronic seals technology. Shenzhen Customs
is now able to monitor containers moving along
a pre-designed route between Huanggang and South-China
International Logistics Centre (SILC), allowing
the handling of customs procedure to be shifted
from the boundary to inland. At SILC, containers
can be interchanged from cross-boundary trucks
to mainland trucks on the same day.
Miss Jessie Chung, General Manager ˇV Logistics of Modern Terminals, commented, ˇ§Thanks to the concerted and persistent efforts of our team, as well as the valuable support of various stakeholder groups having participated in the project, I am confident that Green Lane helps relieve checkpoint congestion between Hong Kong and Shenzhen customs, save overall trucking time and cost, and improve the competitiveness of our Port as a whole. We take pride in our collective success.ˇ¨
The official opening of Green Lane will prove to be a win-win solution to both Hong Kong and PRD areas. As Green Lane further enhances the connectivity between Hong Kong and South China, it will be a precedent for more green lanes to come, which foster overall growth in the region.
