| Modern Terminals is working
with its strategic partners to relieve congestion
at the checkpoints between Hong Kong and Shenzhen,
thereby improving the efficiency and economics
of cross-boundary trucking. After considering
our proposals, the Hong Kong and Shenzhen customs
authorities agreed to introduce the first ˇ§green
laneˇ¨ for the trucking community in May 2006.
Under the arrangement, all
customs-clearance and transfer procedures for
laden containers passing between Hong Kong and
Shenzhen are now conducted at Shenzhen
South-China International Logistics Co Ltd (SILC).
Other container transactions, including cross-boundary
truck interchanges with inland trucks, are handled
there too. Afterwards, the trucks pass directly
along an express lane at the boundary without
needing to spend time queuing and undergoing customs
procedures there. By allowing cross-boundary trucks
to make laden-in-laden-out trips, the new arrangement
also avoids the need for time-consuming container
vanning and devanning at factories, and customs
procedures at local check points.
As a result, the Cross-Boundary
ˇ§Green Laneˇ¨ is improving
the trucking communityˇ¦s overall efficiency and
productivity and reducing its costs. In addition,
Modern Terminals has established inland gate services
at SILC, which is closer to our cargo catchment
areas and our customers.
